Ayres Extemporae
We are an Early Music ensemble formed by a violin, a cello and a five-string violoncello piccolo, experimenting with an innovative approach to basso continuo realization on two celli. While remaining inspired by historical techniques at the core of our practice, we reimagine the baroque repertoire through tools like improvisation and the search for new textures - hence our name improvised airs.
“They are proof that the boundaries of the historically informed performance practice movement are still being pushed.”
— Codalario
“(…) technically brilliant, musically utterly hypnotic and completely fearless (…)”
